Bailey is one of our oldest cockapoo in the club at 16 years old and belongs to one of our overseas club members Peg Gallison. Sadly Bailey left us to go to Rainbow Bridge just before Xmas 2013 and here we honour his memory as a much loved dog and oldest club member.
Here is his story written by owner and mummy Peg:
From the minute I got Bailey, I took him on a road trip with me, home to the East Coast of Canada I drove 14 hours in a car, so the stopping every 3-4 hours was perfect for training, he would sleep in between the stops. Which I think got carried over to his adult life at home, he never had an accident in the house, ever! He took many trips with me to the East Coast over the years, by car and by plane, never a worry and he became part of my family so much so that our names both went on holiday cards, my name with happy face J and his name with a paw print.
I have to say he really went with me everywhere I went, to friends, on vacations, even to work as he was welcome every now and then, and everyone got to know him. He loved the dog park and made many dog friends and people friends, but again most of the time, he was simple happy to walk with me, instead of off playing. He loved the beach, sand and the water for a dunk (never a swim), but also loved the snow … as long as you would play a good game of kick the water or kick the snow, he would try and catch it. He loved to play soccer as well, and I say, it’s because he was breed with an English Cocker Spaniel/Poodle, not an American, which most of that breed are here in Canada. He loved a good nap with me, and his snoring was the best thing ever, he did it from the time I brought him home, until the very last night, a sound I will never forget.
When I met my boyfriend, Bailey was about 6, and I was not sure how he would take to him, as suspected, he would bark if we hugged, get in between us watching television, and sometimes give me the paw and look at me as if to say “ah, when is he leaving” … Over the years, they developed an amazing connection with each other, and we became the 3 best friends. When the relationship ended, their friendship did not, he would go over there for weekends or when I had to go away. When the time came, he was right there with Bailey and I … the last words I heard him say to Bailey was “Papa loves you”, it nearly broke my heart!
I don’t know what else to tell you, except like all of us, you get in return tenfold, what you put into these lovely little animals and I was one very lucky girl to have had 16 years with him … I know they say dogs are a man’s best friend … But in this case, it truly was a girl and her dog
I know in the future, the cockapoo will be the dog that I decide on again and until that time feels right, I will enjoy all the puppies pictures, learn and provide some possible suggestions to those on the Cockapoo Owners Club facebook members group page.
