Cockapoo Coat Colour Gallery
Cockapoos being of both cocker spaniel and poodles come in a lovely selection of colours and coat patterns. You may find some being described differently depending on the breeder, but as a crossbreed there is no colour standard but is open to our own interpretation.
Often what colour a pup starts out with, may not be what it will look like as an adult, so please be aware if paying an inflated price for what some breeders will describe as "Rare".

The lightest of cockapoos can be white or slightly darker and known as Cream/buff , blonde or champagne :
Apricots and reds can be anything from a light biscuit colour to a deep russet red. Often this colour can fade and be what is known as a dilute shade, taking it's genetics from the poodle side, which has a fading gene. Sometimes your puppy may start out dark and gradually lighten as they progress into adults.

You can also get white added into mix such as apricot and white, this also applies to other colours:
Browns can range from a light brown to a deep rich brown and brown is another solid colour that can also fade into a diluter shade of itself. Diluted browns are usually referred to as silver beige and cafe au lait, this colouring is derived from the poodle side and often these two colours can get mixed up. Cafe au lait is a diluted brown and the coat will gradually fade ( in poodles they fade by age of 2 ).
Silver beige, are normally born brown and then gradually fade too and has a lovely silvery sheen to the coat. They can range in colour some being almost like platinum silver. In poodles Silver beige colouring normally shows at 6 weeks of age in the face and paws and gradually lightens as dog ages.

Black can range from a shiny black colour to a flat matt black. Another solid colour that can fade. If a black cockapoo inherits the poodle fading gene black coats can get silver and/or grey tones and hues to their coats, this is in no relation to their age.
Blue cockapoos are another dilute shade of black taken from the poodle side, where the coat has a dark gun metal grey running through it. Blue poodles are born black and turn blue by age of 2 and often have brown hues to their coats as puppies. They will have brown eyes.
Monty ( pic below) we are undecided as to whether he is fading or has some blue poodle genetics in his coat.

Merle is a coat pattern and is currently more common in USA than England. Merles can come in a variety of colours such as Blue, Silver, Red and chocolate. Merle is a dilution gene so it lightens what the coat would have been resulting in patches of colours over the dogs coat. So it will affect black, liver and blue coats but It does not work on red . Red remains untouched and will appear as normal. The random coat dilution caused by merle also affects the eyes and nose. The eyes may be all or partly blue, and the nose may be all or partly pink.
